Oh, where to begin. I was perusing vitacost.com looking for some supplements to boost up my smoothies and I ran across a package of Goji Berries that instantly caught my eye. I know we aren’t supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I usually do, and I was judging this packaging as well. It was awesome. I was all about it. So of course I wanted to scope out the product that came in it so that this package could adorn my counter top with the right justification. It belonged to a one, Navitas Naturals, so I immediately went to their website.
The company about me page states, “Our company is committed to socially and environmentally responsible business practices. We source our premium functional foods through direct partnerships with farming communities around the world. An essential part of our mission is to create economic opportunities among indigenous people in developing countries.” Ok, as a social worker I was instantly drawn in, but are they for real or are they pulling my leg? So of course, I did some investigatory research. I have not been able to find anything negative about this company. I read news articles, interviews, even did weird searches such as “is Navitas Naturals a scam?” and “bad news about Navitas Naturals” and nothing was coming up. My trusty food adviser also buys their products, so as far as I am concerned, they are legit!
Navitas puts out a newsletter every month that is a good read – usually a blurb about a food and its benefits, a story about someone awesome (such as a father-son team who is climbing the highest mountain on each continent) and some recipes. I like the newsletters because they aren’t a bunch of blah blah and have good information! Their website also has recipes and I actually just bought the featured cookbook, “Superfood Cuisine: Cooking with Nature’s Most Amazing Foods” by Julie Morris, which not only has vivid pictures but some tasty recipes and helpful tips.
